Walking hurts...

I was confronted with this sad truth a little more than a year and a half ago when we picked up and moved to Innsbruck, Austria for 3 months. It had been years since I was living in Burlington and walking to and from classes everyday. Years of me walking 10 steps from my home to the car and another 20 steps from my car to the office, only to park my butt in a desk chair for 7 hours a day. I exaggerate... because I did a fair amount of puttering at home getting ready and then at work going to the copier, fridge and bathroom throughout the day, but still I doubt my average daily steps exceeded a mile. All of a sudden I found myself walking 2+ miles a day to downtown, to the grocery store or laundromat, and I remember how sore and tired my feet and legs were. Pathetic.

Well, here I am again, in the same boat. And again I'm amazed at how much walking hurts. And of course it makes me realize how little I walked on a daily basis and makes me feel pathetic all over again. But I guess that will all change now, because no matter where we land an apartment here in Vancouver it seems like walking will be a big part of my daily routine. And once my legs are used to it again, it won't hurt anymore (and I won't feel so pathetic).
