We're moving!
Even though the news is a little old at this point, it still feels like it deserves an exclamation point. If you asked me 6 months ago where I'd be and what I'd be doing right now I think "moving to Vancouver, BC" wouldn't have even crossed my lips, let alone my mind. I would have responded with something along the lines of: "starting my 8th year at Stowe Land Trust, happily ensconced in our little home in Central Vermont". I might have included in a wistful tone, "figuring out how to take a year off to travel around Europe".
Enter Outdoor Retailer. It was then that I think the idea of Matt working somewhere other than Burton really took shape. It was after a short courtship with Apple that Matt began reaching out to some other companies to see if they might be hiring in the near future. Patagonia and Black Diamond were on the list, and when it looked like nothing was going to pan out with either of those companies any time soon, we (reluctantly) settled back into our routine.
Then along came lululemon. Out of the blue (I guess LinkedIn really does work). And before we knew it, Matt was on a flight to Vancouver for an in-person interview. As they say, the rest is history, and here I am (we are) 3 days into a two week scouting/training mission. We have work permits in-hand and a tentative move date of December 1st. Holy cow!
It's all still a little surreal to me, but getting more and more real with every passing day. Vancouver is a pretty cool city. It seems very livable (from the perspective of someone who's been living in rural Vermont for the last 8 years). And so here we are, a month and a half away from packing up all of our belongings (read: a very select few of our belongings) and moving 3,000+ miles away from the place we've called home for a good chunk of our lives. It's slightly scary, a little sad, but also very exciting (definitely deserving of an exclamation point).
