Settling In

It wasn't until the plane touched down at the Vancouver International Airport that I really believed we were moving. The mind will go to amazing lengths to deny certain truths until they are all but impossibly true. In reality, I just couldn't quite fathom it until it really happened. Or maybe I was compartmentalizing it so I could focus all of my energy on all of the tasks that needed to get done before we left our house and started our journey west.

Even still I don't think the full weight of our decision has hit me. I feel like I'm on an extended vacation. We're living in temporary housing, which is just a glorified hotel room with more storage and in-suite laundry. It's downtown, which is nice and convenient, but it's just another baby step in this months-long transition. Once our stuff arrives and we move into our apartment it will be more real. Once I get a job...

Until then, I'm enjoying getting to know our new home. Reveling in the fact that I don't have to be anywhere at a particular time. Trying to take advantage of all the new, exciting things the city has to offer. And being as helpful as I can to make our transition as seamless as possible. I guess you'd call that settling in...
