Lighthouse Park

A sunny, winter day in Vancouver begs for an outdoor adventure, and so I decided to check out Lighthouse Park. On our way back from Sechelt a few weeks ago Matt and I detoured down to the park on our bikes only to decide it was getting too dark to linger. It's a good thing that we turned back because it's a bit of a trek from the parking lot down to the lighthouse and the paths wouldn't have been easy to navigate with our awkward bike shoes.

As one might assume from the name, the park is home to the Point Atkinson Lighthouse. It has marked the entrance to the Burrard Inlet for more than a century and is still functional. In the 1880s the surrounding land was protected and is home to virgin rainforest with trees up to 200 ft tall and approximately 500 years old.

A spiderweb of trails winds through the old growth forest and along the rocky coastline with stunning views of downtown Vancouver across the inlet.
