It hasn't been a typical BC winter. It's mid-February but it seems like spring has already sprung. We've had milder than usual temps which results in rainstorms in the mountains instead of the meters of snow that would typically blanket the landscape. And so when our friends Austin and Ryan arrived for their Epic Revelstoke
Snowboard Road Trip we had to break the news to them... there's no snow.
Luckily when there's no snow, there's mountain biking and surfing to satisfy the need for outdoor adventurers. And that's how we all found ourselves on a boat to Nanaimo, and then snaking our way on a serpentine road through the dense greenery of Vancouver Island toward Tofino.
Our Epic Tofino Surf Trip started (as so many of our adventures have and will) at the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal. One hour-long, foggy ferry ride later we found ourselves in Nanaimo. Three hours, two sidetracks and countless s-curves later we found ourselves in Tofino.
We settled into our quaint cabin at
Ocean Village, made a quick trip into town for supplies, then ventured out into the drizzle. The next few days consisted of surfing, eating, investigating surf spots, surfing the internet to find other surf spots, beach bonfiring. hot tubbing, chatting with friendly Canadians, nighttime tidal pool lurking, boardwalking and taco eating.
